Asa is a returning Collegiate Advisory Board member and previous National Board Member for Teens in the Driver Seat®. Treasurer of the Student Council in high school. “As a member of Teens in the Driver Seat I was a part of something special and meaningful that is making change in the world. I would like to bring the knowledge and awareness that I found in high school to my college campus. I would like to be a part of U in the Driver Seat to continue to be a part of a program dedicated to reducing drinking and driving fatalities on college campuses. This year I will be serving as Vice President of Administration for all of the residence halls on my campus, with this position I would like to use that platform to spread more information about UDS.”

“I would like to become a CAB member because for the past two years, I have really enjoyed myself at the symposiums. I feel like I could bring different and fun ideas to the events to better educate my peers on drinking and driving.”

“One goal I want to accomplish on campus as a CAB member is helping students realize driving under the influence can be more than just getting arrested or getting a ticket but possible manslaughter. I want my peers to know it doesn’t make them less of a person to give up their keys but it will actually makes them smarter and maybe a life-saver.”

“I wish to become a CAB member, because I want to be a liaison for the UTD student body and help educate them on impaired driving and the consequences that follow. I care deeply about the students at UTD and I want to ensure that every single person is safe. I hope to reach a large proportion of our student body and educate them on impaired driving and the consequences. I want to ensure that every student has the resources they need to be safe while partaking in substances that may impair driving.”

“Peer to Peer Education is a passion and career aspiration of mine. Membership within CAB would be invaluable to reach a large collegiate demographic and I wish to join CAB to learn from the U IN THE DRIVER SEAT committee, gain symposium planning insight and provide input on presentation topics for the Peer to Peer Symposium.”
Jacob Cann
Texas A&M Kingsville

“I attended a U in the Driver Seat event last semester and received a good understanding of what this group is about and feel that my views are similar. Jacob would like to “increase education of peers on the dangers of drinking and driving and help others learn to make safe choices when drinking.”

“I wish to become a CAB member because I think that the drinking Canand driving problem has a simple solution: if you drink, don’t drive and if you drive, don’t drink. However, this solution is difficult to get across to students because of the mentality that accompanies situations like this – “it could never happen to me,” “I’m not that drunk,” “I’m fine to drive.” Through my work this year at the Student Wellness Center as a Peer Health Educator, I have learned the value of peer-to-peer education. Often, messages are more effective coming from peers rather than from authority figures.”

“I would like to join CAB because I like planning and I’m extremely organized. When I first attended BE THE DUDE I never expected to be so impacted by it. I would like to take part of providing that experience for others. What we learn in class is important but what we do outside of school with it is what impacts others. I want to form part of a conference that shows students to go beyond and take that extra mile. I once heard that the change starts with me and I would like to start a ripple effect of change and I feel that through CAB I will be able to accomplish this.”

“I wish to be a CAB member because I would like another opportunity to engage with students. This way, I can have a diverse number of contacts as well as work on skills that can help me succeed in a real-world setting. In addition, my campus is still considered to be pretty new, which means that we can begin the groundwork for responsibility and safety on impressionable students.”

“I wish to become a CAB member so I can help plan and host events that promote responsible drinking habits on college campuses. Education is the most effective tool in reducing drinking and driving accidents and being a CAB member I would be able to have a direct hand in raising awareness about the importance of not driving while drinking as well as potentially reduce the number of accidents that happen on campus.”

“Serving as a member of the Collegiate Advisory Board for UDS would be a perfect opportunity for me to get more involved in an initiative that is still in the process of growing on the UT Dallas campus. Because I strongly believe driving under the influence is an issue that needs to be discussed more widely on college campuses, I want to be part of the movement that helps to positively influence and educate students about the dangers of impaired driving.”

“I would like to become a CAB member because I would like to educate people more on drinking and driving and the effects of that. Drinking and driving is a huge problem especially during college so I would like to take a part of preventing it.”

“I want to continue what I did on my High School Campus to my New home and college Campus. I want a safer, more aware campus that can make smart decisions behind the wheel. In just this month, a drunk driver struck a bicyclist on my college campus. Apparently, the bicyclist was a person who’s father I know, so I want to build awareness of the dangers within drunk driving in order to stop these horrific crashes from happening. A major goal I wish to achieve while pursuing my degree is creating a distracted driving simulator that I can share with students on my campus and the local high school.”
