Thankful It Wasn’t Me, Witnessing A Crash

by Iliana Diaz-Moreno

Iliana Diaz-Moreno January 2017I have been impacted by impaired driving. Fortunately I was only a witness to a terrible car crash on the freeway.

I was riding with my dad and brother when we saw the crash in front of us. We immediately pulled over to help. My dad and brother got out of the car, while I called the police. I found out later from them that the driver was drunk and driving his two drunk friends. They wrecked into a car with a teenage driver who luckily lived, but at first he was found unconscious.

To make matters worse, the drunk driver wasn’t wearing a seat belt and he fractured his head in the crash.

It was a terrifying situation. I’m so thankful that it wasn’t my car – my family – that got hit, but it darn sure could of been.

U in the Driver Seat shares Tales From the DUDE Side, publicly submitted stories from people who have experiences with impaired driving, to open the door for conversations on alcohol awareness, impaired driving, drugged driving and more.
