Sept. 2017 Social Media Contest, Texas

Raise Awareness of New Statewide Law in Effect September 1, 2017

Texas has finally joined most of the nation in banning texting while driving. Texting while driving within the state of Texas will be punishable by a fine of $25-99 for first-time offenders, and $100-200 for repeat offenders (though no points will be assigned). It’s important to note that this new law addresses “reading, writing, or sending electronic messages” via a “wireless communication device.”

Participate in our social media awareness contest during the month of September as a way to remind your friends and family not to use their phone while driving. The top 10 people with the most likes will win a $10 Whataburger gift card!

How to participate:

  1. Share/Retweet the new Prohibited Sign from one of U in the Driver Seat’s social media channels (Facebook or Twitter). If you share the sign on your Instagram, make sure to tag @be_the_dude
  2. When you share/retweet the post, ask for friends to like your picture in support of Not Using a Phone While Driving
  3. The 10 people (students only) with the MOST LIKES on their photo by September 30, 2017, will receive a $10 gift card!

Rules:

  • Only students (ages 12-25) that live in the State of Texas a eligible to participate
  • The image of the prohibited sign may be shared on Facebook or Twitter to qualify
  • The image of the prohibited sign may be posted on Instagram as long as @be_the_dude is tagged in the post to qualify
  • Participants in the social media contest may ask for likes from their followers
  • A person may only win one time and from one social media platform (but we’d love if you spread the word on all your other social media profiles)
  • The image may only be shared on individual/personal social media accounts. Group/Team/School accounts will not qualify to win (but we’d love for you spread the word!)
  • Winners will be notified via direct message on the corresponding social media platform. Winners must provide a valid shipping address within 30 days after notification.
  • The Texas A&M Transportation Institute reserves the right to withdraw, terminate, suspend, cancel or modify all or part of the contest at any time without notice.
  • U in the Driver Seat® reserves the right to change any of these rules.
  • All decisions are final.
